In just a couple short months, Illini Bluffs Middle School will be discovering the Medieval Times. This thematic unit will be covered in all grade levels as well as all subject areas in the middle school. The unit will feature guest speakers, learning centers, and even a field trip on May 20th . In years past, students have shared that the trip was a once in a lifetime experience. Their faces light up from the moment we arrive.
Not only is it filled with excitement and plenty of great medieval food, the field trip is also a great learning experience for all of the students. To partake in this adventure, we will be traveling to Schaumburg, IL. You can research this experience further at: http://www.medievaltimes.com/chicago.aspx
We previously held a candle fundraiser to offset the cost of the trip. At the beginning of this school year, we held a 5K race to help lower the cost of the field trip for the students. Thanks to the community’s support, we were able to cut the individual price, for each student, by almost 60%! That means each student only needs to pay $20 to attend this field trip. The price includes transportation, an educational, theatrical performance, and a delicious meal provided by Medieval Times.
In order to ensure your student is able to attend, we wanted to provide as much advance notice as possible. Students may bring their $20 fee to their homeroom teacher by March 27. Funds must be turned in by this date or students will not be able to attend the field trip. The teachers and students appreciate your support in helping your child gain an experience of a lifetime!
Sincerely, Illini Bluffs Middle School Staff

Nine Illini Bluffs Middle School girls had the great opportunity to attend "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day" at Caterpillar building CV on November 5, 2014. During this time, the girls had the chance to attend a Q & A session with six women engineers in various fields. Even one IBMS girl chose to stand in front of hundreds of her peers to ask the panel a question.
After the Q & A session and lunch, the girls had various activities they rotated within throughout the rest of the afternoon. Some activities included building teamwork and communication skills. Other activities included innovative robotic ideas from other female students at the high school level, which were applied directly to their community members. For example, they witnessed how Notre Dame's robotics team constructed a robot to specifically communicate with children with Autism, which allowed them to interact without being over stimulated.
The final group of activities included the opportunity to tour the intuitive 3D Visualization Lab to "drive" a Track-Type Tractor. They also used the 3D technology to walk along the assembly line and view the parts being built through varies angles to see the model in "real-life" before ever taking it to production.
